our path to a more efficient process and less waste

Glass, PET, cans or Tetra: everything we fill starts with water and energy. In our first sustainability report, we map out how we use them more sparingly at our sites in Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and France.

The seven themes

Our approach revolves around seven themes. For each theme, we track our progress, site by site.

What does that mean in practice?

Safety and quality. Always safe, never sorry.
We want everyone who works with us to go home healthy every day, and every drink that rolls off our lines to be safe. We leave nothing to chance.

CO2. Science-based reduction.
We align our CO2 targets with the Science Based Targets initiative. We are working to reduce emissions at our own sites and are also talking to our suppliers about it.

Energy. Use it efficiently, don’t waste it.
Every site uses energy differently. That’s why we track down, site by site, where energy is lost, for example in idle machines or compressed air leaks, and we adjust accordingly.

Water. Our most valuable ingredient.
Water is in every drink we make, and we need it to clean our installations. We look at every step of the process: where can we use less, and where can we reuse water?

Waste. Fewer losses and waste streams.
Less waste starts with fewer losses during mixing and filling. Whatever is left over gets a second life wherever possible.

Learning. Growing through knowledge.
Working more efficiently starts with the people who know the lines. That’s why we invest in our people’s knowledge.

Wellbeing. We care, we grow, we belong.
We want our people to enjoy their job, get opportunities to grow and feel at home at Konings. An employee survey helps us track their engagement and wellbeing.

Where we want to go

We set a target for each theme. That is what we will steer towards in the coming years.

In practice

In Genk, we ship part of our export containers via the port, instead of trucking them to Antwerp. That takes transport off the road. Good ideas travel too: what works at one site, we take to the next.

Together with our customers

We make drinks for brands and retailers, from recipe to finished packaging. For them, our progress is their progress too. That’s why we share the data they need for their own reporting, and we’re happy to help them reach their targets.
